Paint the inside of the box leaving the top unpainted and allow to dry. Tear the papers or pictures into pieces to be decoupaged onto the outside of the box.

Spread glue in a small area at a time placing the torn pictures or paper into the glue and smoothing from the center out. Work until you have covered the complete box with the exception of the area covered by the lid.

Spread a layer of Mod Podge or decoupage medium over the entire area allowing it to dry and then sand lightly and repeat the application of the medium building up the layers until you have a smooth surface. Always let each layer dry and sand before applying another coat of medium.

Glue the gathered lace around the lid overlapping slightly at the dip in the heart. Fill with wrapped candy or the gift.
