Happy Heart Button Crafty Tips
by Bluebonnet Crafters

# 1. Quilt blocks drawn on graph paper can then be stitched on plastic canvas and a set of 4 makes a nice gift.

# 2. To clean plastic canvas projects: Be sure fibers are color safe then place the project in the top shelf of your dishwasher.

# 3. When making Plastic Canvas Coasters, to save time back them with felt rather than a second stitched design and whip stitch around the edge as usual.

Happy Heart Button ... Doll Corner

Fun Foam or Felt Paper Doll

This doll is meant as a project for children. Provide the pattern or cut out doll and the other supplies and let the kids (both boys and girls) design their own fantasy character. You can make up kits or just put everything out and let them "do it their way".

Pattern for foam/felt doll

Materials:

  • A piece of Fun Foam or Felt 4" X 5"
  • 4 flat 2 hole buttons color of your choice
  • Scraps of fabric, trims and embellishments of your choice
  • Tack it Over and Over type glue
  • White craft glue
  • Scissors
  • Doll hair or yarn
  • Permanent colored markers or paints
Instructions:

Using the pattern trace the basic doll on the material of your choice and cut it out. Using the permanent markers draw in the features. Apply hair using yarn or doll hair and white craft glue. .

Sew the buttons one on the front of each shoulder backed by the one on the back. The buttons will be used to button the main dress or shirt onto the doll and keep the strain off the doll figure itself.

When the top of the costume has been designed cut two slits that fit over the buttons by first coating the area of the buttonhole with white craft glue. When dry cut your buttonholes and the glue with retard fraying.

Apply the Tack it Over and Over type glue to the bits and pieces of fabric and trims you are using decorate the clothing. Allow it to dry. When completely dry you can apply the clothing to the doll and replace it to change the design of the wardrobe.

If you are giving this as a Valentine gift carefully sign your name on the back of the doll and place it in an envelope with the assorted clothing or the material for the kids to make their own clothes..

House Ornament

There is an old German custom that to have a happy home you will need twelve items on your Christmas tree. By the end of this year we will have given you instructions on how to make these twelve items. Each item has a different meaning and the meanings will be included.

The first item is a house to show protection of the family.

House ornament

Materials

  • Lightweight cardboard
  • Paints, colors of your choice
  • Double stick tape or craft glue
  • Gold cord for a hanger
  • Scraps of lace for window curtains

House templateRoof template
Instructions:

Trace the templates and cut out the pattern pieces, Score all dark lines. Using paint, crayons or scraps of paper decorate the outside of your house using your own design. You can cut out the window areas with a craft knife, apply a piece of clear plastic on the inside to look like a window and add bits of lace or fabric as curtains.

Fold the four sides up and place double stick tape or glue on the flaps to attach the sides together at each corner.

Fold the roof in the center, again using the double stick tape or glue to hold the flaps in place. Tape or glue the hanger in place. Your house is ready to hang on the tree as a symbol of protection.
