life-like European doll

Can anyone supply the name of a European, possibly Scandanavian, doll that was popular from about 1975-on. The company was known by a girl's name, I think, but I am not sure. There are boys, girls, all ethnic groups, from all continents, and were modeled after real children. You had to look twice to be certain it was a doll. For the time they were a higher-priced doll, but they were lovely. Emily McGehee
