Hi. I'm new to quilting and to message boards...
I have started a project which is turning out to be a lot more involved and complicated than I had ever imagined it would be! I am making a cover for my stroller. I made a pattern. Then I cut up old jeans into 7" squares. I then sewed the squares together into strips and then sewed the strips into rectangles. I have 4 large rectangles. I was told (by my mother-in-law's friend) when I started this project that it would be easier for me to quilt the rectangles first, then cut out the shapes of my pattern pieces. So, that's what I plan on doing. I have two fitted cotton jersey sheets (heavy t-shirt type material) that do not fit our new mattress that I have cut the elastic off of and plan on using for the backing. However, one of my friends from my MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group who knows a little about quilting told me that this type of fabric would be way too stretchy to use in my Singer Simple sewing machine with the bulk of the denim quilted pieces and the batting if I do not use a stablilizer on it first. I thought this would be no problem until I realized that there are tons of different kinds of stabilizers and I do not know which one I need! I plan on doing a stitch in the ditch quilting. Do I need a stabilizer that will wash out? Or what? Please help me! Thank you! Sincerely, Lisa Joy
