Walking foot problem

My walking foot seems to be damaging my Pfaff machine. It appears the continual up/down motion has etched a notch into the needle bar screw shank (where the c-shaped part fits onto it). I'm afraid to use the walking foot on this machine now. Has anyone else had this happen?
