It was an old dram of gold, fired to Cone 019. I've used old stuff before, that I inherited from my grandmother, and it was fine. Any ideas on what went wrong this time? Thanks for any input. You gals are awesome! I use a lot of fired gold. Could it have gotten contaminated with something else? I know that I use a new clean brush in a new container and never use the brush in anything else except the gold. I learned to use gold over 35 years ago and it was stressed very strongly not to ever let your gold get contaminated. If the brush was used before you used it in gold it might have contaminated your bottle. If this is what has happened, you can not expect the gold in the bottle to be useful anymore. You will have to remove the tarnished gold from your piece and get a new bottle of gold and new clean brush and start over. You need to wash a new brush throughly and let it get completely dry before using it in a new bottle of gold.
