: : I'm very unfamiliar with Ginny dolls, but I got this one from a lady who was given it sometime in the '50s. She is 7 1/2 inches tall, has long curly blond hair, painted eyelashes, blue eyes that close (although not well). She is strung, but I can't tell if she's a walker because I've never seen one. Her legs DON'T bend at knee. I'm confused about the hair because it seems glued on, not threaded. The label inside her red organza and white trimmed dress is tagged Vogue. She has adorable red leather Mary Janes and white socks. Her hair need to be styled, buy otherwise she looks pretty good. I haven't taken her clothes off, but from I can tell she doesn't have markings on her back. Can anyone tell me what year she may be from? Is she collectible? I can send a photo. Thanks! Lynn
: Hi! If the doll does not have vogue or ginny on it's back then it is not a vogue doll, but a competitor's brand. Many of us had these dolls and thought they were ginny but they were not. They can be just as cute and collectible, though.
: The info you need: markings on back or back of head, body all plastic or head vinyl, does the head turn side to side when you move the legs(walker),feet have toes or shoe pattern. The dress is a ginny dress if it have vogue on it. The year of the dress will match the label type. The hair was glued on. Based on what you said, my guess is that it is an early strung Ginger doll. You have a very pretty doll! Enjoy!

From Patty:
The hard plastic early Ginny dolls had glued-on wigs made of mohair or synthetic Dynel. Ginny dolls made from 1950-53 had painted lashes and did not walk. Head, arms and legs were attached to the torso with rubber bands. This technique is called "strung." So If your doll has (1) painted lashes (2) is marked "Vogue" on the back of the head and (3) is marked "Vogue Doll" on the back it is a Painted Lash Strung Ginny.

In 1954 the first walkers were introduced, and in this year only walkers still had painted lashes. So if your doll has (1) painted lashes (2) legs attached to the body with visible hip hinges (3) is marked "Vogue" on the head and (4) is marked "GINNY/Vogue Dolls Inc./Pat. Pend./Made in USA" on the back, it is a Painted Lash Straight-Leg Walker.

After 1954 Ginny dolls were made with molded lashes. Models made in 1955 and 1956 are called Molded Lash Straight-Leg Walkers (mark on head: Vogue; on back: GINNY/Vogue Dolls Inc./Pat. No. 2687594/Made in USA).

In 1957 knee hinges were introduced. Models made from 1957 to 1962 are called Molded Lash Bent-Knee Walkers (mark on head: Vogue; on back: GINNY/Vogue Dolls, Inc./Pat. No. 2687594/Made in USA).

You can find a photo of your doll, her name, and the name of her outfit in the Collector's Encyclopedia of Vogue Dolls: Identification and Values (judith Izen and Carol Stover. This book is listed on eBay, Amazon, and other book and doll websites.

I hope this will help identify your doll and any others you find.
