I cut mine about 2 inches and then tend to roll or stretch together. Its surprising how they come together. I like the crochet hook that doesn't have a point to it. I had two kinds and the rounder one works best for me. It hardly has a hole to hold the netting, it just has a slicelike on the handle. Everyone is different.
