Looking for an old boy doll!

My wife had a boy doll as a little girl that I would love to replace. It looked a little like a Howdy Doody knock-off. Red molded hair, freckles - Whole head was rubber (this is all we have left). He was fairly large (18-24") with jeans and a gingham shirt - I believe he had a rope belt. She called him "MAX" but I don't know if that was the actual doll name. There are no markings on the head anywhere. Wife received him after being sick in about 1962. If anyone has anything like this or any information, I can photograph the head that we have for better ID.
Would love to have any help you can provide.
